The Akkeshi Distillery, founded by Kenten Jitsugyo, resembles a distillery in Scotland, the home of whiskey, and is sometimes called a small Lagavulin. It is the second whiskey distillery in Japan based in Hokkaido, following Yoichi Distillery which is famous for Nikka whiskey. Similar its neighbours, it is inspired by the spirit of Scotland and features two traditional Forsyth pot stills, and produce using peated barley single malts with a strong peated originality herr such as Islay. The disillery where located in the center of a moor prone is tended sea fog, made it possible to produce aromatic whiskey, benefits from a climate of relatively cool for summers and very cold for winters, is affected by iodine spray from sea air in aging .
