Created the legendary malt whiskey, is Hanyu Distillery, which is that centered on the Ichiro’s Malt card series that made successful bid at auction for a price approaching 100 million. Toa brewery acquired Hanyu’s whiskey production license in 1946 and began distilling malt whiskey in-house in 1980 and kept continue untill 2000. The distillery was closed. Mr. Ichiro Akuto is a member of the family that originally ran the distillery, and he took over remained whiskey from Hanyu. Mr. Akuto currently work as CEO of Chichibu Distillery, which produced Ichiro’s Malt. In 2021, the Hanyu Distillery was revived after 20 years through crowdfunding. It is said that the pot still is reproduced based on the blueprint before closing, and the company’s malt whiskey will be distilled again. Fortunately, the blueprints for reviving was remained. Toa Brewery is currently under the umbrella of Hinode Holdings.
