Gakkogawa Distillery is the distillery in Yusa, Akumi, Yamagata Prefecture which is surrounded by mountains (Chokaisan), rivers (Gakkogawa) and the sea (Sea of ​​Japan), and rich in green. Gakkougawa Distillery Co., Ltd. was established in 2021 as a subsidiary of Tatenokawa Sake Brewery with long histry. Tatenokawa Sake Brewery produces only Junmai Daiginjo and has outstanding skills to produce of Sake. The Distillery will challenge to produse Whiskeys with accumlated the know-how for long time with the delicate sense of high-polished Sake brewing and with demonstrating the high skill for relating to raw material processing and fermentation. The concept of Whisky which is aimed by the Gakkogawa Distillery, is a pure and elegant “Shonai Whiskey” that uses water of the Gakko River system from Chokaisan (Mt. Chokai) and Shonai-produced rice . They plan to release two categories: imported blended Whiskey that makes use of the sensibility of sake brewing, and premium single malt Whiskey that confines Shonai’s bounty and times in one barrel.
